Isaac Lizardo’s ‘ S T E E P E D ’ explores the interplay between memory, object and visual representation. Through a mixture of painted, sculpture objects and video, the body of work looks for connections between memory and visual language, considering the tension between what significance exists within the object or image and what is projected onto it. The minor element exerts a disproportionate influence, interpreting conflicts that arise when there is a discrepancy between the presence and absence of something.
Imbued Significances of Objects: ‘The Materialisation of Memory’
The work’s themes of memory through the found imagery and objects and how it can transform into a vessel that encapsulates both extremely personal and shared experiences. Lizardo searches for the power in these things, emotion and resurfacing recollections. Combining physical presence and emotional weight proposes how it could give each image or object significance beyond its materiality.
Shifting Significances: ‘The Fluidity of Meaning’
Lizardo’s objects and images, malleable in interpretation, unveil a compelling dichotomy: the tension that surfaces when an object implies presence while its absence suggests alternative narratives. assemblages draw on the old and the new, highlighting the evolving nature of meaning. This arrangement underscores the mutability of meaning over time and under changing circumstances. As contextual nuances shift, the meaning we attribute to these objects transforms.
